TRANSGENIC ANIMAL PRODUCTION SERVICES

We can provide full services in transgenic mouse and rabbit production, including transgene DNA construct design and preparation, animal purchase, animal care, hormone treatment, superovulation, oocyte harvest, DNA microinjection, embryo culture, embryo transfer, near natal care, sampling of mouse and rabbit kids, transgene PCR genotyping, and original generation of mouse and rabbit breeding and so on. Produced transgenic mice and rabbits can be used as disease models, or animal mammary gland bioreactors to produce bio-pharmaceutical enzymes, antibodies and other pharmaceutically important proteins. Normally, most customers provide transgene DNA constructs for microinjection. We recommend that customers first test the DNA constructs in mice or rats, to reduce cost and avoid transgenic experiment difficulty caused by potential transgene toxicity.

1). DNA microinjection & embryo transfer

This is the main service package and is charged as one MI-ET service, which includes all service items described below:

(1) The work to collect zygote stage animal embryos, perform DNA microinjection, in vitro cultivate the embryos, prepare recipient animals, and perform embryo transfer.

(2) Animal pregnancy and birth care.

(3) C-section on recipient animals when necessary.

(4) Baby animal care till the age of 35 days old.

Note: With approximately 300 embryos microinjected, it is expected that 2-3 positive animals will be generated. However, transgenic rate varies largely depending on the transgene DNA construct used.

2). Tissue sampling

This service includes collecting a 1cm long mouse tail of a young mouse normally at the age of D10, and 5mm diameter skin tissue from one ear of a young rabbit normally at the age D35 to D45. This is normally for genotyping assays.

3). Blood sampling

This service includes collecting blood from ear vein from a rabbit normally older than 6 weeks if necessary.

4). PCR genotyping

The service includes PCR genotyping and identification of transgenic animals. Primer sequences are provided by the customers and final test results are determined by the customers.

5). Per-diem charges

We charge per diem for any animal in the project that is older than 35 days old.

6). Breeding

We charge the breeding programs and please inquire.

7). Animal purchase

We charge to purchase extra male and female animals, other than donors and recipients.

8). Promise

Due to the special nature of the service, we generally do not guarantee the transgenic mouse and rabbit production, nor guarantee the transgenic expression of mouse and rabbit. However, if the customers can prove the efficiency of transgenic mouse or rat production with their tested DNA constructs, we are happy to discuss to ensure a certain numbers of transgenic animals. With our previous experience, we can obtain 2-3 positive transgenic animals in approximately 300 embryos microinjected. In addition, we have proved that certain recombinant proteins expressed as high as 10-12g/L, in the milk of transgenic rabbits.
